Sam Altman returns as CEO of OpenAI

Altman assured that he is 'looking forward' to returning to OpenAI "with the new board and the support of Satya.

The artificial intelligence company OpenAI has reached an agreement in principle for the return of Sam Altman as CEO, with a new board of directors that will be chaired by Bret Taylor, along with Larry Summers and Adam D'Angelo, as announced in a publication on X (formerly Twitter).

After hearing the news, Altman assured that he is "looking forward" to returning to OpenAI "with the new board and the support of Satya (Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft)" and "building on our strong partnership with Microsoft."

"I love OpenAI and everything I've done in recent days has been to keep this team and its mission together. When I decided to join Microsoft on Sunday afternoon, it was clear that it was the best path for me and the team ", indicated the manager on the social network X.

Last Friday Altman was fired by the creator of ChatGPT after having lost the "trust" of the board of directors, who accused him of not being "consistently honest in his communications" with the body, which harmed "his ability to exercise his responsibilities." ".

The company also removed Greg Brockman as chairman of the board of directors.

Some media outlets claimed over the weekend that a block of OpenAI shareholders, including Microsoft and funds such as Tiger Global, Thrive Capital and Sequoia, were pushing to reinstate Altman as CEO and Brockman as president, in addition to dismiss the newly appointed directors of the firm.

On Monday, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced that he was hiring both Altman and Brockman to lead a new department focused on Artificial Intelligence.

In the last few hours, the majority of OpenAI workers threatened to resign and follow their former CEO, in addition to calling for the resignation of the current board members.
